How to Turn a Tanker
Feeling stuck on the same path? I know the feeling. Sometimes we're all a bit like a tanker ship—slow to change direction. But what if a small turn could lead to a more meaningful journey? This is for anyone who's ready to finally change their course.

I often joke that I’m like a massive tanker ship—stubborn, heavy, and slow to turn. Once I set a course, it feels almost impossible to shift. Even if I know that changing direction by just a few degrees could lead to a clearer, calmer path ahead, in my head it feels like a big, complicated maneuver, full of invisible obstacles.
And yet, isn’t that how so many of us move through life? We stay the course, hoping calmer waters will appear on their own. We tell ourselves that if we just keep pushing forward, the wind will ease, the waves will settle, and we’ll feel better. But is that really how we want to live—plotting a route once and never adjusting it again?
Some people thrive that way. But if you’re like me, there’s a little voice in your head whispering, If only I tried this… If only I explored that… I could find a better path, feel happier, discover more opportunities.
Growth is everywhere we look. Nature does it effortlessly—trees stretch toward the sun, rivers carve new paths, seasons transform landscapes. And yet we humans, with all our capacity for change, often resist it. We hold ourselves back from becoming who we might be.
It’s not because we don’t want to grow. It’s because growth requires change, and change feels uncertain. When you adjust your course, you face questions you can’t immediately answer:
What if this is the wrong direction?
What if I hit a dead end?
What if it doesn’t make me any happier?
Those questions are natural. They’re also not the point. The real shift happens when you realize that the destination matters less than the decision to turn. It’s in the act of exploring, learning, and adapting that we evolve into who we’re meant to become.
And here’s the honest truth: I still don’t know exactly who I want to become. I haven’t mapped out my perfect destination. But I do know that choosing not to stay on the same course has led me to beautiful experiences, fascinating people, and lessons I never would have stumbled upon otherwise. Every turn—whether tiny or dramatic—has helped me grow.
So maybe your own ship doesn’t need a hard left turn. Maybe it just needs a few degrees of adjustment. Try that class you’ve been curious about. Reach out to someone you admire. Explore a hobby you’ve been quietly shelving for years.
I hope these words water your soil just a little. Give you that nudge to step into something new. And if you need a starting point, Brandbizkit is here. Who knows where your next turn might take you?
Enjoy the journey.
